fixed media digital audio with or without soprano
Program Notes:
This fixed-media acousmatic piece is a palimpsest of two musical settings of poetry by Georg Trakl (1887-1914). The base layer of this palimpsest, which has been contorted, disintegrated and spatialized by granular synthesis, is my chamber ensemble and soprano work Passion (2009), based on Trakl’s poem of the same name (written in 1909). Over the top of this, symbolic elements from In den Nachmittag geflüstert (Whispered into afternoon) (1913) have been grafted into place using spectral mutation.
